According to the European poll, Russians more than other Europeans do not believe in climate change. Note that the survey was conducted from 2016 to 2017, so it is possible that today the situation has changed. However, regardless of whether you believe in climate change or not, these studies say that global warming negatively affects not only the health of adults, but also the condition of every child on our planet. Moreover, scientists note that a child born today will live in the world four degrees warmer (compared with pre-industrial indicators), and climate change will have far-reaching consequences for human health from infancy to adolescence, adulthood and old age.

Recently, we told you about the statement of 11 thousand scientists who declared an extreme climate. The world, as we know it, is rapidly changing and not for the better. And while representatives of the older generation, who are often heads of state, dismiss climate change related issues, representatives of Generation Z protest around the world, demanding decisive action from governments. And this is not surprising, because they will have to live in a world so graciously created by adults. However, according to scientists, the worst will be children born today.

The disastrous effects of climate change

Lancet Countdown is an international project of the medical journal The Lancet, which studies climate change and its effects on health. According to a report published on November 13, climate change is already adversely affecting the health of all children on Earth. The report confirms the relevance of recent calls for action by youth around the world, in particular from the 16-year-old eco-activist Greta Tunberg, who sharply criticized politicians around the world for not doing enough to combat climate change.

The report is based on international interdisciplinary collaboration of scientists and presents the results and consensus of 35 leading academic institutions and UN agencies. The report draws on the experience of climatologists, ecologists, mathematicians, engineers, experts in the field of energy, food and transport, economists, sociologists, political scientists, public health workers and doctors who conducted a thorough analysis of the data collected.

“Many of the indicators contained in the report suggest that the world is following the path of“ familiar business ”. The chosen trajectory will lead to a fundamentally changed world, ”the researchers write.

Recall that in 2015 many heads of state signed the Paris Climate Agreement, which set the goal of “keeping the average global temperature below 2 ° C above the pre-industrial level and making efforts to limit the average temperature to 1.5 ° C” . If this goal is achievable, then the child born today will witness how in 2050 the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere will reach zero. Researchers note that this path of development is possible. Moreover, it will positively affect people's health.
